Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?
In one word we want young men that are driven. Those that want to excel in everything they do: academics, athletics, citizenship, etc… A strong work ethic and a strong understanding of the word commitment can go a long way in helping to create our kind of environment.
Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?
Tim Saunders was drafted following our season last year by the Chicago Cubs. Timmy was dismissed from Marietta College following each of his first two semesters due to poor academic performance. Following those first two semesters something clicked. We feel that something was maturity and understanding. Timmy became driven to not only be the best player he could possibly be but the best student and person. All of the things necessary to achieve greatness lend themselves to each other and other aspects of your life. Timmy realized this following that first year and truly committed himself to all things. Over the course of the next three years Timmy became a professional prospect on the field, a model citizen off, and a 3.0 student in the classroom. Much of this took place because of knowledge and maturation but the rest was accomplished through hard work and commitment.
