Eric Snider | Associate Head Coach | Baseball | University of Illinois

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

  • Solid student
  • Multi sport athlete
  • Athletic
  • Work habits
  • Grinder
  • Competitive
  • Baseball IQ if possible
  • Teachable. Meaning I’m not recruiting for who you are today. I’m recruiting you for what you are going to be 3-4 years from today.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

We have 35 players who were not drafted out of high school (not on the cover of the magazine) and were drafted either their junior or senior year out of Illinois.

We develop players, and that’s a hard thing to do when winning determines your livelihood.

SAs have to be tough, internally motivated and have high goals and expectations both academically and athletically. Illinois has the resources in both areas that the SA can take advantage of to be the best student, the best player they can be. Smart kids take advantage of these resources.
