Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

We try to recruit student-athletes who are motivated on and off of the field. We really believe that our ability to win games is directly related to their ability to be successful academically and socially. We want them to be accountable and responsible.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

I’m not sure if he exceeded my expectations on the field, but we have a graduating senior who has absolutely exceeded everyone’s expectations in the classroom. This young man is a Captain, 4 year starter, two-time 1st Team All-Conference Player and two-time All-Region Selection. He also has dyslexia and a learning disability. When he was little, his family was told that he would never attend regular schools. He will graduate this weekend, on time, with a Cumulative G.P.A of 2.78.

Why did he excel? Because he gave his very best in everything that he did. I do not believe that people can give more than 100%. I usually laugh when people claim that they give 110%. Most people do not get the best out of themselves, but this young man does. He refuses to give up when many others would quit and is mature enough to ask for help if he needs it. He is incredibly responsible and always accountable for his actions. He will continue to apply these traits as he moves through life and will continue to be successful.
