Mike Soltis | Assistant Coach | Football | Hiram College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

Individuals who can focus on their priorities – education and football. Good communication skills to engage their professors, coaches and administrators. Know right from wrong and enjoy being a college student. Athleticism with common sense.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Took a chance with a student athlete with a high school 2.5 GPA who now is a leader on campus, majoring in psychology, selected for an internship with the Cleveland Clinic (works with autistic children) and has a 3.3 GPA. FOCUS, GOAL ORIENTED AND MATURATION. Personal control of classes, enjoyed engaging his professors and freedom from being told what to do.
