Keri O’Meara | Head Coach | Softball | Wellesley College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

  • Must be Academically strong!
  • Athleticism
  • Team Player
  • Great Attitude
  • Has shown great interest in Wellesley College
  • Unofficial and Official visits need to go well. Prospect showed respect for family/parents. My team’s opinion is also very important…are they a good fit for our school?
  • Lastly….softball skills are strong. (Speed, strong arm, mechanics offensively are solid as well as defensive skills)

Could you give an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

The one example I can refer to is my captain from last year. She wanted to be pushed and disciplined, she was completely on the same page as the coaching staff, hard worker (100% ALL THE TIME). Her greatest quality was her ability to be an enforcer and a vocal leader on our team. I think many women struggle with the enforcer role and she demanded respect and she certainly got it. Sometimes female athletes worry more about their teammates liking them so therefore they struggle with enforcing and holding players accountable. This was her greatest skill.
