Zafi Levy | Head Coach | Men’s Squash / Women’s Squash | Williams College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

The first thing I look for is high academic athletes as I found close correlation between academic success and high achievement on the squash court. I look for juniors who are not burned out of squash, thus eager to work hard and improve. I look for kids with high technical level; it is very hard (and time consuming) to try rebuild one’s swing from scratch.

Could you give an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Well I can tell you so many stories as our program is known to recruit 2nd tier players (top tier players go to Harvard/Princeton/Yale) and make them into top Collegiate players. Right now I have three players on my team who play in the top 5 standing who were mediocre junior players which were passed by all Ivy Schools. Will Gruner (Williams #2) Alec Greaves Tunnell (Williams #4) and Jeremy Hermanne (Williams #5), all won their matches vs Harvard last year!
