Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

We are looking for an athlete that realizes that excelling in academics is just as important as in the water. We want student-athletes in our program. Our athletes need to be dedicated, determined to improve, and optimistic. Fast swimming is important, but a coachable and positive swimmer is just as important.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

This past year I had a swimmer who in his Freshman year was 2nd place in the conference championship in the mile. This year he came into the season sick with Mono, and had a horrible training year. He talked about how school was keeping him up late at night, but he managed to show up to every practice. Although he had a questionable season, he ended up finishing the season with an amazing time drop in his 200 Freestyle, mile, and 500 free. Although he was training poorly, he stuck it out and managed to have a great ending to a very difficult season.
