Kyle Oaks | Head Coach | Swimming and Diving | Wright State University

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

We look for athletes who demonstrate a good understanding of the sport and a desire to continue to improve and move forward to the collegiate level with enthusiasm. I look for athletes with great grades as well. Moreover, I want to see year round swimmers. I know that there are talented athletes everywhere, but for our training program I prefer those who have been exposed to the year round commitment.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Presently we have a young man named Kile Aukerman who we recruited  a few years ago as a 1:58 200 IMer and a 52.8 100 BK. He has since been 1:50 in the 200 IM and regularly goes 52 in season for us. His improvement is certainly linked to his passion and willingness to improve. He is a coach-able guy, hard working in the pool and the classroom, and he simply sticks to it no matter what.
