Brendan Dawson | Head Coach | Men’s Lacrosse | Widener University

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

We’re looking for young men who want to be great students first, and great athletes second. Being a great student and athlete requires a “no stone left unturned” attitude – and we want young men who are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to be great. If you apply that attitude towards school – there is a good chance that you will apply those same attitudes towards sport. Other qualities include dedication, work ethic, ability to prioritize and competitiveness.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Ryan Carlin, SR Midfielder. Came off of double patella tendon replacement (both knees) and missing the previous two seasons to come back and win our fitness competition this spring. A tremendous competitor and teammate – Ryan has dedicated the past two years to getting himself back on the field to be involved in our program in whatever capacity he can. He’s an inspiration to his teammates and coaches.
