Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

#1 characteristic that we look for in an athlete is relentless competitive spirit. If the individual competes in all that he does, he will most likely position himself for success in life after college.

#2 – an unyielding commitment to his teammates – selfish players rot teams from the inside out

#3 – toughness – it can be demonstrated in so many ways. Those who can push themselves beyond their limits usually are the difference-makers in tough situations

#4 – resilience – similar to that of toughness – life is simply about resilience. Are you capable of failure and bouncing back

#5 – IQ – what can you do with or without the ball – how can you function under pressure – how do you react to different scenarios during games

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

As for my short story regarding former players, it is always special to see student- athletes transition into the next phase of life and know that they are making a difference in the workforce as leaders and teammates, as well as living their lives with character and integrity. In the end, if they are committed and dedicated husbands and fathers, and they carry out the values that we focused on, then as coaches, we were successful.
