Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

A young man that I am currently coaching, John, is simply one of the most hard working and committed kids I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. When he came in as a freshman last year we knew he was physically gifted, but we had no idea how hard he would work. He has put in 15lbs of muscle in the past 8 months because he lived in the weight room this past summer/fall. And while he still has a lot to learn, he would be the first to acknowledge that. He soaks up coaching like no player I have ever been around. He is always open to advice and criticism and he never gets offended. He just wants to be a better player and help contribute to wins for his team. There isn’t a selfish bone in the kids whole body, and he leaves is heart on the field every single day. Let me say this another way to further illustrate my point, I hope that one day I have a son or daughter who is as good a person and teammate as John is.
