Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

  • Character – Positive behavioral characteristics
  • Athletic ability
  • Sport specific skills

Could you give an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

The player was a senior on last year’s team. He had a very good sophomore year and then followed that with a disappointing junior year. I believe he got lulled into a degree of complacency by success that came relatively easily in his sophomore year and probably due to a very good cast of players surrounding him and making his job of scoring that much easier. During his junior year and because of this complacency he let his fundamental skills and conditioning slip. After this off year, this player and I had an exit interview and talked about his play from his sophomore year to his junior year. He truly rededicated himself and committed to improving during the off season. He came back his senior year, was in much better shape, executed skills in a fundamentally sound manner, was our second leading scorer, made others around him better and was selected All-Conference.
