Bob Warming | Head Coach | Men’s Soccer | Penn State

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

Academics first – Penn State is one of the top 50 schools in the world.

One special quality – best passer, best goalscorer, best defender, best leader..something he is better at than anyone else we have seen in the country.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

I am fortunate to be the only collegiate coach in America that has had at least one player drafted into MLS since MLS began. Several of these players were walkons to the collegiate program. None of them exceeded my expectations, they exceeded the expectations of others (those that did not recruit them) and sometimes exceeded their own expectations. The formula is very simple. The 10 minute rule. Ten extra minutes of functional training for your position each day…either before practice or after practice…or both! Those that do 20 extra minutes a each day. (10 before, 10 after) cumulatively get in an extra full training session or two a week. Again, the ten minutes must be functional for their position….but it’s the formula that works.
