Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

I think we are looking for a number of things in a player that is going to be a potential student athlete. Since we are a Christian school we are looking for kids who are Christians. More than that we are looking for mature kids who want to be in a disciplined and structured program. We don’t want to have to deal with behavioral headaches all the time. Second we are looking for kids with talent to play at the division 1 level. We want to be a very good team and want to recruit talented kids. I think a few other qualities we are always looking for in a kid are work ethic, commitment, and willingness to improve. We want players that want to work hard at what we are trying to do and buy into the program as a whole.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

We have one player who was primarily recruited for baseball but ended up coming in to play soccer at the last minute. We knew he was a great kid and was a decent soccer player. This past year as a junior he played nearly every minute at center mid and was an all-conference player. The main thing that has allowed him to be successful and exceed expectations is his willingness to buy into the program and his work ethic. He has always been hungry to learn and improve and get better and when that is matched with a work ethic that is second to none, there is a good chance of success.
