Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

A good person: Communication comes naturally in the recruitment process (including parents)… Timely response to emails/phone calls, campus visit, attends camps, etc.  Show as much interest in the program as we show in them.

Motivated: Shows the desire to perform at the highest level in the classroom (Northwestern University), and on the field (Big Ten).

Growth mentality: Strong desire to consistently improve. Accepts criticism.

Skill set: Are they one of the best with their specific strengths. (i.e.) majority of the time he has a positive impact in the games/training sessions he is competing in. And, are their strengths needed for our program at that time. (i.e.) Forward? Center back? Goalkeeper?

Problem Solver: Do they have the tools to solve problems on and off the field?

On the field: Technical, athletic, very good knowledge of the game.

Off the field: Mature


Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

We are constantly looking for players that have the discipline and desire to improve. Our goal every year is to create an environment where players exceed their own expectations as well as ours.
