Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

The student part of, student athlete, is the first qualification that any recruit must pass before we can look at any other quality in a potential student-athlete! After we have determined that a recruit fits our academic standards then all of the other attributes that you would expect are looked for; talent, competitiveness, drive, personality fitting our program, are all important.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Several years ago we had a student-athelete that had everything that you wanted physically, strength, size, speed, and talent, however we were not sure he was going to be a “student”. After a great freshmen season on the field we were still not convinced that he was going to stick around. A funny thing happened his sophomore year, he found something academically that he enjoyed and boy did he attack it! His toughness and drive that made him so successful on the field was tranferred to his new academic interest and he excelled beyond anyone’s expectations. I still use him as an example to kids who seen a little lost, I tell them that once they find what they want to do attack it just like you would your sport.
