Chris Brandt | Head Coach | Men’s Volleyball | Lakeland College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

Lakeland Men’s Volleyball is looking for athletically gifted volleyball players, who are dedicated and understand what their priorities are. We are constantly trying to recruit players who are better than what we currently have. We also look at their academic background, understanding that if they are struggling in high school, chances are they will do the same in college.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

My players tend to exceed my expectations when they buy into the program and aren’t content with just doing what is asked but go above and beyond. Academically, they aren’t shooting to try to attend our team goal of a 3.3 GPA but are working towards a 4.0. They don’t just come to practice because they have to but come to get better every day. These are the players coming to my office asking to get additional individual help even though they are already one of the best players on the team.
