Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

The student athlete has to have a desire to excel at the next level. At Bucknell, they must have a desire to excel and an expectation to excel in the classroom. They must be capable of making a commitment in the long term. This commitment must first be to themselves and second to the process of development in all phases of the program. They must accept and be willing to commit the daily/weekly hours which are usually a dramatic increase from HS.

We look for students that show a desire and drive to become the best they can be vs. be a part of a program.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

All of the athletes have made varying degrees of the above. Some later than others, such as Junior year. I currently have a National level hammer thrower developed from the beginning here. This student athlete brought higher than expected daily focal energy to each practice. His speed of development was clearly above the norm with other great throwers.
