Brent Ayer | Head Coach | Cross Country – Track and Field | Hood College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

We are looking for good students who are willing to train consistently. Very simply: if an athlete is willing to do the work, we will make them better.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

We have a history of taking athletes and making significant progress. Last year’s number one male runner in Cross never broke 17:30 for 5,000 meters in high school. He ran 15:48 for us. Our number one female runner was a six minute miler in high school who is now carrying that speed for 6,000 meters and has earned All-Conference honors in both Cross and Track.

The staff here has over 100 years of coaching experience. It includes a 30-year former high school coach who won 14 state team championships, as well as the three-time Assistant Coach for the U.S. Olympic Team.
