Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

Talent, obviously is important. The desire to want to be better is crucial. you can call it competitive, or whatever you want, but in distance running, the person who wants to get better is going to put in a lot of miles. If a person won’t do this, then they are limiting themselves. They can be talented, and run well, but the real difference in running well, and running great, is doing the things that make you great. That comes from a desire to work hard.

Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

Some one who exceeded my expectations, was a runner who was willing to do more than I asked of him when it came to running in the off season. This person put in more work than most people….as a result, his times dropped and his performance excelled! He became a leader on the team, as the others looked up to him for what he had accomplished. They then, followed what he did, and thus had more success. His own hard work, and improved performances, thus inspired the rest of the team to achieve more.
