Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?
At Haverford, we really try and recruit the whole person. As one of the top academic colleges in the country, we have to find incredibly talented students who have the ability to play at the highest level of Division III basketball. We look for hard working, driven, self-directed players who are as passionate about basketball as they are about academics. Our mission at Haverford is strive for excellence in everything we do and so we look for players who buy into that philosophy!
Could you give us an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?
I have experienced that many times in my 27 year career. One player in particular was one of the hardest workers I ever coached. Her talent was not at the same level as others on the team and yet she was one of the greatest leaders I ever had the pleasure to coach. Respect is earned and her more talented teammates leaned on her for support and guidance. She was an incredible inspiration to our team and became a captain. Early on in her career I wasn’t even sure she would continue with the sport – and yet she was one of the best captains I have had on any team.
