Jeanne Friedman | Head Coach | Women’s Crew | Mount Holyoke College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

First is to be academically qualified to be accepted. Mount Holyoke is very select school- I don’t really want to recruit anyone with out the GPA or SAT’s to get in.

Athletically- I am looking for good team folks- folks who LOVE the sport and have been successful in the high school programs. As a D3, anyone who rows or coxs already is a plus. I’ve had some great results lately getting rowers from Exeter, CRI, Ann Arbor clubs, Pomfret. These folks CAN move right up to Varsity level.

Could you give an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

We have a first year rower now who was a rower at Buckingham, Browne and Nicols. She was not very communicative with me over the year and I really had no idea how interested she was. She turned out to be great and was the bow seat of our 1V this fall. She is easy going, worked really hard over the summer and mixed in well with the group.
