Roberta Stannard | Head Coach | Women’s Volleyball | Curry College

Describe the qualities that your program is looking for in a potential student-athlete?

First – Must be a great fit academically. They have to want to be at this college for their career choice.

Second – Sport Experience. They must have mastered all volleyball skills, preferably at a higher level of play, club, etc.

Third – Attitude & Dedication. Must want to be ‘part’ of a whole, inspired to develop themselves to a higher level for the benefit of the team.

Could you give an example of a current or former player who exceeded your expectations, highlighting the reasons that player excelled?

I had a gal who was one of three captains and a player of average ability. Her work ethic and attitude toward team was phenomenal! She was the one you could hear above the rest, on or off the court. She was the first across the line in any drill. She was the first to high-five players and encouraging their play…even if she sat the bench. Amazing…totally demonstrated the characteristics of a selfless teammate dedicated to the whole. To note: She was part of a first year program…a difficult challenge by itself, but a perfect player for a new program. We were very fortunate to have her.
